About

Hello I’m Marion Laird and for 20 years I’ve been helping people, to change their lives for the better and create loving caring positive relationships.

Relationships are at the of heart happiness, they affect the way you feel and impact on all areas of your life, such as partner, family, work, leisure, addiction, coping and stress.  Difficult relationships can make us very unhappy, hurt and angry and can even cause illness.

One in five say their relationships is in distress and higher if you have children.

Having experienced difficulties in my own life and attending therapy gave me the desire to train as a therapist.  These experiences have helped me develop a deep understanding of the problems that can make your relationships difficult.  Clients tell me I am warm and approachable, as we work together find talking helps even, with the most difficult issues, and to understand themselves and those around them.

To help relieve your distress, please pick up the phone and we can have an initial chat to see if relationship counselling can help and I can offer a free 30 minute appointment to help identify a way forward. I am on 01324 804408

INFIDELITY
Infidelity or Affairs happen for lots of reasons, they can be really exciting, it makes you feel attractive, but sometimes it is a kind of craziness, you are tied up in a frenzy of secrecy, torn between two lovers, and being found out.

Some of the reasons given for infidelity are – feeling neglected, their partner paid then no attention, underlying problems with their relationship or sex. Opportunity through social media or texting makes it easier than ever to start an affair.

Discovery of the affair creates unimaginable pain and hurt.  It can be really confusing for the person having the affair and devastating for their partner.   It’s hard to believe but with support couples can work through this difficult time.

Please call me to help.

COMMUNICATION
Often cited as at the heart of a distressed relationship.  Each of us thinks we are clear about telling our nearest what is going on for us and often get frustrated when they ‘just don’t hear us’.

It’s emotional …. How can you have the conversation?

It is important to understand your emotional triggers, what you feel has to be addressed.  Take responsibility for your own feelings, rather than saying or shouting “you never help out”.  Are you really trying to say, “I need you to recognise my contribution, I am tired and I would really like your support, care and love”?

If poor communication continues, both parties can shut down – leaving you feeling unheard, lonely and unloved and your relationship can become strained.

Let’s talk together.

CONFLICT
Conflict can be helpful.  It can be a way to negotiate and resolve difficult issues however, if it is continuous can cause deep distress and can break down relationships.

We each have conflict styles, perhaps you find yourself, shouting and making accusations? In your family, you had to get in there first, or you would be victimised, no one listened and nothing resolved itself.  An argument nowadays finds you thinking ‘what happened there I got it wrong again’.

You may find yourself fearful, your stomach clutches because in your family anger and arguments were shameful.  You were always attacked, you are in bits, and you shut off. Afterwards you are distressed that you were unable to put over your point of view.

It’s complicated!

It can be difficult to resolve on your own, let me help you.

BECOMING A FAMILY
It’s exciting you’re pregnant and thrilled about the baby.  It can be a bit scary too.

Moving from a twosome to a threesome this little new person creates huge change.  Money may be tight, causing arguments.  Thinking of going back to work, leaving the baby and the childcare costs is a big worry.

Your individual families may be helping with finance or childcare and involve two families ‘ways of doing things’.  You may feel guilt about asking for support and can suddenly find you are arguing about your own family’s views, its exhausting!

This very special time can cause more pressure than ever on your relationship.

If you think I can help, please call.

PASSION LED US HERE
It started with … a kiss … attraction … chemistry.

In the beginning we believe love will conquer all and we hope it will be for life but for different reasons relationships can become distressed through:  poor communication, arguments, conflict, infidelity.   This can include differences in outlook, the influence of family as we grew up, addiction, demands of career seeping into you life, mental health and more.  Other matters are the things that happen to everyone that we cannot control such as illness, elderly parents, children, bereavement and loss, redundancy or financial problems, all of which create extra strain on our relationships.

Let’s talk together. If you are experiencing difficulties in your relationships, please call.
